MM What? What does 8MM mean in relation to silk?

MM What?  Seriously, what is MM?  Watch my brief ramblings to get a basic understanding of MM in silk and how it relates to sewing and costuming.

If you would rather NOT watch (it's cool... was my first video, a bit disorganized...) MM, in short, is momme (pronounced mummy...weird, right?)  It is essentially a unit of density, the higher the MM, the denser the silk is woven, giving it more weight.  That's the short short version.  So if a length of silk 100 yards long and 45 inches wide weighs 8 pounds, it is 8MM silk.
