Shoulder to Neck dart
If you’re not splitting the shoulder dart, then the two most common spots to relocate are the Neck and the Armscye. Let’s explore the neck dart.
First off, understand that when relocating the bust dart, you are always pivoting around the bust point. But generally, the shoulder dart is only about 3” long, so you can’t quite pivot around that. Once you identify where you want your neck dart to open, draw a line from your new dart location to the horizontal balance line (HBL). Next draw a line from where your new dart meets the HBL to the dart leg of the shoulder dart.
Mark a spot 3” down on your new dart line. Cut the new dart line and the slash line you drew to the dart leg. Cut to the HBL but not through. Move the slash line to the other dart leg, closing the shoulder dart. This will open a new dart in the neck. Redraw your shoulder line and note your new dart tip is the 3” cross mark you made on the new dart line.
