Skirt Sloper Completed

Stitching up the skirt sloper follows the same directions as for the bodice. Start by cutting out the pattern pieces. Pin them down to your toile fabric. Remember when cutting out that the pieces do NOT include seam allowances, so make sure to trace out seam allowances prior to cutting out the fabric. Once the pieces have been cut from the fabric, mark the darts before unpinning the pattern pieces.

Once the darts have been marked, pin and stitch all darts. Next pin the back pieces to the sides of the front piece (skirt sloper is only three pieces, one front cut on fold, two back pieces). Stitch the backs to the front, and drape on your form.

If the pattern was made properly, it should fit with very little adjustments needed. But if adjustments are needed, instructions are included in Patternmaking for Fashion Design. Lucky for me, mine fit spot on. I guess I’m getting better at this pattern making thing.

Or those are famous last words. Next up: the sleeves.
